Abbreviated Abstract

Sorting an extracellular recording containing signals from more than one neuron into events assigned to distinct sources requires the use of a spike sorting algorithm. Evaluating the performance of such algorithms requires a priori knowledge of the firing times of these sources, such as is available from intracellular recordings. We present here data sets consisting of single and paired intracellular recordings from neurons which were simultaneously being recorded on a tetrode. This data is used to evaluate the linearity of extracellular recordings during overlapped events, and to evaluate our spike sorting algorithm for isolated as well as overlapped events.
